Leadwork in Chelmsford
Lead flashings, valleys, bay roofs and dormer cheeks, cut and dressed to keep the joins in a roof dry.
We carry out leadwork in Chelmsford and across Essex: flashings where a roof meets a wall or a chimney, lead valleys, bay window roofs and dormer cheeks.
A straight answer on your roof
We get up and look before we price, then tell you whether it needs a repair or a re-roof and why. Where planning applies, such as re-roofing in a conservation area, we sort that before the scaffold goes up. SET Building & Brickwork has over 15 years in the trade.
- Inspected before it is priced
- Repair or re-roof, explained
- Conservation area rules checked
Lead flashings
A flashing seals the join between a roof and a wall or chimney. The lead is set into a mortar joint, dressed down over the tiles and fixed so it can move with the building without letting water in.
Valleys, bays and dormers
Lead valleys carry the water where two roof slopes meet, and lead covers bay window roofs and dormer cheeks. Each piece is cut to a size that lets it expand and contract without cracking.
Repairing old leadwork
Old lead cracks, lifts or goes missing. We replace the failed sections, redress the rest and repoint the joints the flashings sit in.

Questions about leadwork
Is lead the only option?
No. Lead substitutes suit some jobs, particularly where theft is a worry. We tell you what we recommend for your roof.
How do I know if a flashing has failed?
Damp on a chimney breast, or on an inside wall below where the roof meets it, is the usual sign. We check it from the roof.
