Full house renovations
A full renovation runs in this order: strip out, structural alterations, first fix, plastering, then second fix and the finishes. The order matters, and so does making the right decisions early, before work that would need undoing later.
We plan the sequence with you at the start so the project runs in a logical order and the trades are not working on top of each other.

Knocking through and remodelling
Many renovations involve changing how the ground floor works: removing walls, forming new openings and reconfiguring rooms. This is structural work and needs proper design, steelwork and building control involvement.
We carry out the structural stages ourselves and work to the engineer's specification.
Renovating older and period houses
Older properties need a different approach. Existing construction, damp, and the condition of what is already there all affect what is sensible. We assess the property before recommending a scope of work.
Listed buildings and conservation areas need consent for more of the work, and your architect leads on that.
What happens behind the walls
A full renovation is the right time to deal with services. Rewiring, replumbing and replastering are far easier before rooms are finished, and doing them properly at that stage avoids disruption later.

Questions about house renovations
Can you renovate a property we have just bought?
Yes. A lot of our renovation work is on properties that have recently changed hands. Speak to us before you finalise plans and we will flag anything that affects cost or sequence.
Do we need to move out?
It depends on the scope. A back to brick renovation is easier with the house empty. Smaller jobs can be done in stages while you live there. We will be straight with you about which applies.
Can you work with our architect or designer?
Yes. We regularly build to drawings prepared by architects, designers and structural engineers, and we are happy to be involved in discussions during the design stage.
