Fascias and soffits

The fascia is the board along the bottom edge of the roof that carries the gutter, and the soffit closes the gap underneath it. When the timber behind them rots, water and birds get into the roof.

We check the rafter ends when the old boards come off, and repair them before the new ones go up.

Gutters and downpipes

Gutters have to fall towards the downpipes and be joined properly, or the water spills down the walls and soaks the brickwork. We set new gutters to fall and run them into the downpipes.

While the scaffold is up

If you are having a re-roof, a loft or an extension, it makes sense to renew the fascias, soffits and guttering at the same time, because the scaffold is already there.

Lights along the eaves, like the ones on the garden annexe at the top of this page, are planned in at the same stage.

Can you replace the gutters on their own?

Yes. We check the fascia behind them while we are up there.

Do the fascias have to be replaced with the gutters?

No. If the fascia boards are sound, new gutters can go on the existing boards. We check them first.
